Art in the village

Word sculpture - arrive - by Rupprecht Matthies

The Springhornhof is a unique place for contemporary art in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath, which also receives great recognition beyond the region.
In the stables of the former farm, current international artists exhibit their works and develop new projects in relation to the village, nature and landscape.
In the hayloft, artist talks, children's programs and workshops take place. In the garden, sculptor HAWOLI, who lives and works in the coach house, shows his sculptures. The chicken coop serves as a guest studio, the stair loft houses the "Institute for Paleolithic Archaeology" by artist Mark Dion, and in the hallway the artists' group myvillages runs an "International Village Shop."
At Springhornhof you can also get all the information you need, maps of the area, and rental bicycles to get you on your way to the Neuenkirchen "art landscape." Nestled in fields, woods and meadows around the village, you can explore more than forty impressive landscape artworks by international artists along a walking and biking circuit.

Art in the landscape

Artwork wood crystal from Tony Craig

Springhornhof is the sponsor of one of Europe's pioneering landscape art projects. Since the 1970s, internationally renowned artists such as Tony Cragg, Timm Ulrichs, Micha Ullman, Mark Dion, Elmgreen & Dragset, Christiane Möbus or Dan Peterman, have been invited to develop site-specific works in dialogue with the landscape.

The artistic interventions, which now number more than forty, blend carefully into the natural environment, seek sculptural contrast, create exciting spaces, make natural processes tangible, or draw attention to traces of historical change.

The embedding of the works in an old cultural landscape, the experience of the changing seasons and the experience of artistic and natural processes make up the special charm of the Neuenkirchen "Art Landscape".
